VYPE U: Memorial Lacrosse Off to a Hot Start

The Memorial Mustangs Division 1 varsity lacrosse team has started off strong this season. They have picked up big wins over Pearland, Katy, and Bridgeland while showing the potential of what may come deeper into the season. On Wednesday night, the Mustangs improved to 4-0 after defeating Strake Jesuit by a score of 8-2.

Seniors Gregory Tingleaf and Ben Bradshaw and sophomore Andrew Lucio each scored a pair of goals for the Mustangs, one in the first half and the other in the second. Sam Gauss even had his own birthday moment when he scored Memorial's first goal of the game.

The Crusaders played a noteworthy defensive stand in the second half with stops by senior Carson Grimm and sophomores Thomas Jewett and Hampton Pillsbury. On the offensive end, sophomore Jack Murrell and junior Cole Spinks both scored.

Memorial is led this season by multiple seniors who will play lacrosse at the collegiate level: Ben Bradshaw (Colorado College '24), Luke Chapman (MIT '24), and Sean Kennedy (Roanoke College '24). Sophomore Andrew Lucio and goalie Jake McMillan are also stand out players who will lead Memorial into district play.

Austin High School will be the Mustangs' next opponent, who they play this upcoming Saturday. Strake Jesuit will play St. Thomas More from Louisiana on the same day.

In 2019, Memorial finished in the second round of the Division 1 Super Regionals after losing to Jesuit Dallas. This year, they hope to go even further with the talent they have.
