After great storylines coming out of the first week back for Texas High School Football last week, Week 2 has been highly anticipated. Fans can expect great competition this weekend throughout the state, but here we have some of the top games featuring Dallas-Fort Worth teams that you're going to want to keep your eyes on!
Southlake Carroll vs. Rockwall-Heath Robby Rakestraw (MaxPreps)
Kaden Anderson was impressive in his debut under center for Southlake Carroll.
7 p.m. Thursday, September 2
The Dragons are coming off of a big Week 1 win over Highland Park in which they proved that Quinn Ewers wasn't the key player on their team. Southlake has been bringing up great athletes for years and the first couple of weeks will give them a chance to showcase their talent. After a 45-21 win over the Scots with exceptional plays from new starting quarterback Kaden Anderson, the Dragons can be expected to put on an all-out show against Rockwall-Heath.
The Hawks enter Week 2 after a close, physical matchup with Keller Timber Creek in which Rockwall-Heath won 56-49. Quarterback Josh Hoover will step into the pocket ready to roll against Southlake Carroll on Thursday night, but it's Heath's defense that's going to have to step up to the challenge of slowing the Dragons' offensive game.
Previous meeting
The two teams met in 2020 where Southlake Carroll defeated Rockwall-Heath 72-57. Hoover threw for nearly 400-yards and accounted for four touchdowns last season. Anderson has yet to face a strong Rockwall-Heath defense, but with a seasoned offense, he just may look like a veteran quarterback.

7 p.m. Friday, September 3
6A Allen, ranked No. 10 in the state, is coming into Week 2 on a high from their 56-30 win over Plano East. Allen's new quarterback, Michael Hawkins, has a lot to look forward to in this matchup. Hawkins will be put to the true test against Atascocita, but with Jaylen Jenkins in his offense, it shouldn't be too hard to overcome the adversity of his second start. Jenkins helped lead Allen to the 22nd consecutive win over Plano East with 204-rushing yards and three touchdowns. Allen has never lost in their stadium, so you can expect them to defend it with their full force.
Atascocita is coming in as the No. 6 ranked 6A team in the state. With a 48-7 win over Klein Collins, there's no doubt that the Eagles are ready to continue action with an ambition to continue scoring. The Eagles have a strong offense led by quarterback Gavin Session who is no stranger to facing a strong Allen team.
Previous Meeting
Allen met Atascocita in the 2020 season where Gavin Session totaled 498 yards (330 passing). Ultimately, Allen won 52-27. Although Atascocita is looking for revenge in this meeting, expect Allen to fully rise to the challenge.

Other key players for Ryan are four-star Texas commit Austin Jordan and Kalib Hicks (who posted 139-yards with three touchdowns last week).

The Wildcats are coming into week 2 after allowing only 209 yards of total offense in a 46-17 win over Hebron last week. Guyer defense didn't allow a single point in the first half of their game last week and forced four turnovers. Keep an eye on Guyer quarterback, Jackson Arnold, as he posted 225-yards of offense last week with two touchdowns to his name.
Previous Meetings
This will be the third time that Denton Ryan and Denton Guyer have faced each other in 7 seasons. Denton Ryn has won both previous matchups: 31-28 in 2015 and 23-20 just last season. The key to the game this season will be whether or not Denton Ryan can force their way through an extremely tough Guyer defense.
▲ Euless Trinity vs. Austin Westlake 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 3
The Trojans are headed into Week 2 after a 45-27 win over Arlington Lamar in Week 1. Euless Trinity's Ollie Gordon stepped into the quarterback position after having been a running back and played a huge role in the season-opening win with 136-rushing yards. The Oklahoma State commit can be expected to be on his toes and ready to work against a strong Westlake defense on Friday.
As reigning Class 6A State Champions, the Chaparrals are looking to continue to add to their list of wins this week. Coming off of a 54-13 win over Temple, Westlake is ready to continue to showcase their depth of talent starting with No. 3 quarterback in the nation in the Class of 2022, Cade Klubnik. Last season, Klubnik threw for just under 3,500 yards totaling 35 touchdowns. Westlake hasn't lost a game since facing Lake Travis in the 2019-20 season.
▲ Argyle vs. Pleasant Grove Zach Ohlemeier twitter account (@OhlemeierZach).
7:30 p.m. Friday, September 3
The reigning Class 4A State Champions are going to come into Week 2 after a 45-29 win over Fort Worth Nolan Catholic- who isn't a pushover when it comes to private school play. With an undefeated season last year and a big week 1 win, no one can deny that Argyle will have the upper hand in this matchup. Using two quarterbacks to defeat Nolan Catholic last week, you can bet to see Jacob Robinson and Zach Ohlemeier play well against Pleasant Grove on Friday. Fans should also keep their eyes on Argyle running back Landon Ferris who tallied 11 carries and two touchdowns against Nolan Catholic last week.
Pleasant Grove is coming in ranked as No. 2 in their division and a 58-0 shutout win over Arkansas' Nashville team. Pleasant Grove is going to have a much more physical matchup against Argyle this week and with an injured quarterback, it's going to come down to who shows up in the pocket for them. Pleasant Grove posted a 9-4 record in 2020 and is ready to show that they have what it takes to play among the best in the state.
